PREP SWIMMING AND DIVING: Marshall cruises past Montevideo in home dual

MARSHALL -- The Marshall swimming and diving team came back home on Tuesday looking to maintain its strong efforts against Montevideo. Marshall did just that, earning a 102-68 victory.
Marshall coach Nikki Axe-Bell said they had to make some last-minute changes to the lineup and was extremely pleased with how her team responded, especially the younger athletes.
"We had a little bit of a break after traveling a bunch so we really took some time to pick up the yardage and focus on some things. Some things I was exceptionally pleased with was our JV team won as well [81-78] and that comes from them branching out and taking on those harder races. I've seen some tremendous growth from our newer athletes who have stepped up into those tougher races as opposed to something like 50 and 100 free," Axe-Bell said. "We had people swim diverse things, such as Emma Beavers in the 100 fly and Alex Larson in the 100 breaststroke, those were different from the norm. I did have a couple of injuries that changed the lineup at the last minute and that forced us to be even more creative and I'm so pleased with how they stepped up and did what they needed to do."

Marshall will compete next on Oct. 29 at home against St. Peter at 6 p.m. Axe-Bell said going into the MEA break they need to take advantage of their practices and knows it will be a challenging matchup against St. Peter.
"We're heading into MEA break now, this is our major training focus, so Thursday we will have a three-hour morning practice and practice in the morning on Friday and Saturday and really amp up the yardage heading into St. Peter," Axe-Bell said. "They are always tough, we need to not be complacent; yes, we were successful against them early in the season but they always come back strong, so we need to be humble and at the top of our game."
