NSIC VOLLEYBALL: Former TMB player Sydney Lanoue earns NSIC Defensive Player of the Week

DULUTH — Throughout this year UMD Athletics is partnering with Minnesota Power, Allete to highlight the Bulldogs accomplishments in the 3 C’s: Classroom, Competition, Community.

Minnesota Duluth senior defensive specialist/libero Sydney Lanoue has been named the NSIC’s Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office released on Monday afternoon.

Over the past weekend, the Bulldogs were able to go 2-0 on the weekend with road wins against Minnesota State Moorhead (3-0) and Northern State (3-1). Lanoue led the way for the Bulldogs as she anchored the Bulldogs defense with an UMD record 35 digs in their three-set win against MSU Moorhead. The 35 digs were also good enough to tie a Division II season high. In their win over Northern State, Lanoue would add another 14 digs. Overall, Lanoue averaged a NSIC best 7.00 digs per set over the weekend. Lanoue would also add 10 assists on the weekend as well.

Lanoue, a 2021 team captain out of Tracy, has started every match this season and has appeared in every set so far this season. Overall, Lanoue has appeared in 87 matches for the Bulldogs so far in her career. Lanoue also becomes the first Bulldog to be named an NSIC Player of the Week this season.
