SMSU GOLF: SMSU places eighth at CSP Golden Bear Classic

MAPLEWOOD — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s golf team concluded play at the 36-hole Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bear Classic on Tuesday shooting a 54-over-par 342 for the second straight day and finished with a two-round total of 108-over 684 to place eighth at the nine-team tournament played at the par-72 Keller Golf Course.

Sally Gallagher finished as the top Mustang finishing tied for 16th overall with an 18-over 162. In today’s final round she carded a 10-over 82 with 10 pars.

Jacqueline Gossen shot an 11-over 83 on Tuesday to place tied for 29th with a 25-over 169. Gossen finished today’s round with eight pars. Lauryn Driscoll tied for 36th with a 29-over 173, following today’s round of 13-over 86 with eight pars.

Danielle Podoll shot a 20-over 92 on Tuesday with six pars and tied for 49th with a 36-over 180. Natalie Bohnert also shot a 20-over 92 on Tuesday with four pars and finished 55th with a 46-over 190.

Three Mustangs played as individuals in the tournament with Sydney Noel shooting a career-low 14-over 86 on Tuesday with eight pars and tied for 36th with a 29-over 173. Anneke Weg shot a 19-over 91 today with six pars and closed the tournament with a 30-over 174 to tie for 41st. Ashley Trongard finished with a 13-over 85 today with one birdie and eight pars and closed in 46th place at 34-over 178.

Rogers State University won the team title with a score of 32-over 608. Lydia Sitorus from Rogers State and Faviola Gonzalez from Nebraska-Kearney earned co-medalist honors with a 6-over 150.

Southwest Minnesota State returns to Marshall this weekend to host the EverSpring Inn & Suites Mustang Invite this Saturday and Sunday at the Marshall Golf Club. Saturday’s action gets underway with a shotgun start at 1 p.m., while Sunday’s play begins at 9 a.m.
