MARSHALL — After spending its first month of the season on the road, the Marshall girls swimming and diving team held its first home meet of the season on Tuesday, defeating Willmar 105-79.

“We had our whole roster here, which was a big deal and keeping everyone healthy and in play,” Marshall coach Nikki Axe-Bell said. “I was able to move some people around and see some different swims from people I haven’t seen this season and this was our first time swimming at home and we always swim confidently at home and enjoy their home pool and that was true again here. This was our fifth meet in eight school days so they are pretty sore and tired.”

Up next

Marshall will compete next on Oct. 14 at home against Tri-City United at 6 p.m. Axe-Bell said their biggest takeaway is continuing to fine-tune some fundamental skills as well as properly recovering as a group.

“They did a nice job of finishing their races and getting their hands to the wall; we have some people who are new to high school swimming, so just understanding what dual meet scoring is about and watching the scoreboard and fine-tuning our starts, turns and general knowledge of the sport,” Axe-Bell said. “We will have a two-week break now because we’ve been in a cycle for a week and a half of train, recover and prepare, so this will be a good opportunity for us to get some yards in which we haven’t been doing because we’ve been doing a lot of race-ready work.”
