MARSHALL — The American Baseball Coaches Association announced on Wednesday the Southwest Minnesota State University baseball team has been honored with the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award for 2020-21.

The ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award honors high school and college baseball programs coached by ABCA members that post a cumulative team grade point average over 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year. The Mustangs earned a 3.14 overall GPA for the 2020-21 academic year.

The SMSU baseball program, under the direction of head coach Paul Blanchard, had 13 student-athletes earn Academic All-NSIC accolades this season recording a GPA of 3.20 or higher. Seven of the honorees earned NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence accolades with a GPA of 3.60 or higher.
