DELANO — The Marshall Legion baseball team fell to Hutchinson 4-3 to start the district tournament on Wednesday. Marshall scored two runs in the top of the sixth to tie things at 3-3, but Hutchinson answered with a run in the bottom half of the frame to earn the victory.

Tyler Maeyaert led Marshall with three hits while Chase Douglas had two hits and an RBI, Charlie Jacobson had a hit and an RBI, Jacob Hughes had a hit and Connor Neubeck had an RBI.

Jacobson took the loss on the mound, going 5 2/3 innings while allowing four runs on eight hits and struck out five.

Marshall will continue tournament play today.

Region 13C tournament

Milroy Irish 9, Worthington 1

MILROY — The Milroy Irish amateur baseball team defeated Worthington 9-1 to start the Region 13C tournament on Wednesday.

Ben Heichel led the Irish with four hits while Tyler Peterson added three hits and Anthony Dolan and Dominic Dolan each had two hits.

Josh Baker earned the victory on the mound, going seven innings while allowing one run on just one hit and struck out 17. The 17 strikeouts ties the team record that was previously set by Cody Mather.

The Irish (24-6) lead the best-of-three series 1-0 and will face Worthington on the road on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Granite Falls 1 (7 innings)

GRANITE FALLS — The Granite Falls amateur baseball team fell to Sacred Heart 11-1 in seven innings on Wednesday.

Jordan Odegard recorded the lone hit for Granite Falls while Brandon Grund had an RBI.

Adam Brewers took the loss on the mound, going five innings while allowing eight runs on eight hits and struck out five.

Granite Falls will face Bird Island on the road on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Cottonwood 7, Dawson 0

COTTONWOOD — The Cottonwood Junior Legion baseball team defeated Dawson 7-0 in junior legion tournament play on Tuesday.

Jordan Fischer led Cottonwood with a two-run home run and three RBI while Nathan Fenske added a two-run double.

No stats for Dawson were available at press time.
