AMATEUR BASEBALL: A’s top Milroy Irish in playoff tune-up

MARSHALL –The Marshall A’s used an impressive pitching performance and timely offense to defeat the Milroy Irish 1-0 in one of the final regular season games before the region playoffs.

Matt Hmielewski got the start on the mound for Marshall, delivering a four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in the win.

The Irish had scoring opportunities, including the bases loaded with one out in the eighth inning, but a double play ended the Milroy scoring attempt.

The Marshall offense needed just four hits in the win. The deciding run came on a wild pitch.

The A’s will travel across the border to play at Harrisburg (South Dakota) on Sunday.

A’s to host Region 4C Tournament

The Marshall A’s recently announced that they are set to host the Region 4C playoffs for two weekends, in August.

The Marshall Baseball Association is looking for volunteers to help during the tournament August 7-8 and August 13-15, including ticket-takers, field maintenance and concessions. If you would like to help in any way during the tournament in August, the A’s have a volunteer sign-up form linked on their website and social media pages.
