PREP TRACK AND FIELD: Marshall’s Danya Estrada, 4×800 meter relay team qualify for state meet

WACONIA — The Marshall girls track and field team competed in the Section 2AA meet on Wednesday, placing 10th as a team with a score of 28 points. Shakopee took first with a team score of 92, followed by Waconia in second (69) and New Prague in third (60).

One relay team and one individual qualified for the state meet next week. The 4×800 meter relay team of Bellamy Sukalski, Taleigha Bigler, Allyson Sample and Miracle Tucker placed second with a time of 9:42.85 while Danya Estrada placed second in the 400 meters with a time of 59.49 seconds and second in the triple jump with a leap of 34-07 to punch her ticket to state in both events.

Marshall girls coach Marie Sample said felt they did a good job of staying poised as a young team against challenging teams.

“We have a young team and didn’t have a lot of older kids go out for track this year, so we were kind of starting fresh,” coach Sample said. “These kids haven’t been around this level of competition, but I thought they did really well and stayed poised. Some of them had never competed at the high school level before and I think they had fun and learned a lot and they did the best they could.”

In the 100 meter hurdles, Katherine Prahl took 28th with a time of 19.78 seconds while Alexi Schneider took 29th with a time of 19.79 seconds and Lindsey Hart took 41st with a time of 22.33 seconds. In the 100 meters, Averi Schneider took 28th with a time of 14.07 seconds while Avery Fahl took 48th with a time of 15.89 seconds. In the 4×200 meter relay, the team of Alexi Schneider, Peyton Boeck, Leah Matzner and Autumn Deutz took 12th with a time of 1:57.11.

In the 1600 meters, Allyson Sample took 10th with a time of 5:39.91 while Bigler took 24th with a time of 6:02.23. In the 4×100 meter relay, the team of Averi Schneider, Alexi Schneider, Madelyn Murphy and Deutz took 17th with a time of 55.98 seconds. In the 400 meters, Delaney Dieken took 33rd with a time of 1:12.19 and Anna Kuecker took 35th with a time of 1:12.56.

In the 300 meter hurdles, Beret Pedersen took 25th with a time of 55.92 seconds while Hart took 30th with a time of 56.71 seconds and Ava Holmgren took 38th with a time of 58.87 seconds. In the 800 meters, Sukalski took seventh with a time of 2:32.41 while Anna DeGroot took 24th with a time of 2:45.81 and Gracelyn Foster took 31st with a time of 2:53.90. In the 200 meters, Prahl (32.15 seconds), Elise Goode (33.66 seconds) and Samantha Chavez (35.27 seconds) took 48th-50th, respectively.

In the high jump, Holmgren took seventh with a height of 4-11 while Matzner took 10th with a height of 4-11. In the pole vault, Deutz took 12th with a height of 8-03 while Averi Schneider (14-09 1/2), Hart (14-08) and Murphy (13-05 3/4) took 15th, 18th and 38th, respectively, in the long jump.

In the triple jump, Boeck took 15th with a leap of 32-00 and Hart took 32nd with a leap of 29-08 1/2.

In discus, Brooke Gillingham took 40th with a throw of 72-09 while Abby Panka took 47th with a throw of 55-02 and Kaylee VanHauwaert took 49th with a throw of 52-00. In shot put, Panka took 31st with a throw of 28-02 1/4 while Gillingham took 40th (25-07) and Lauren Carver took 41st (25-00 1/2).

Boys

The boys 3200 meter run was also held Wednesday. For Marshall, Sam Deutz took 19th with a time of 10:50.07.

Up next

Marshall will compete in the state meet next Saturday at 10 a.m. for the boys and 3:30 p.m. for the girls at St. Michael-Albertville.
