SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: SMSU’s Shirek sets two school records at USD Tune-Up

VERMILLION, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State University outdoor track & field teams had its final meet prior to the conference championships on Friday competing at the University of South Dakota Tune-Up at Lillibridge Track Complex and Gottsleben Field.

Isatu Shirek set a pair of school records on Friday for the women’s team, crossing the line in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:03.77 to finish fifth. She also set a new school mark in the 100-meter hurdles placing ninth with a time of 14.52.

Rebecca Manteuffel recorded a toss of 49.20m in the discus to finish second, while she also had a toss of 13.76m in the shot put to finish sixth.

For the men’s team, Renald Pierre ran 15.23 in the 110-meter hurdles to pick an eighth-place finish.

Connor Wigand went 16.11m in the shot put to place seventh and finished eighth in the discus at 47.76m.

Jordan Nolan finished 14th overall in the discus at 43.50m, while Carl Swedzinski earned a 12th place finish in the shot put at 14.31m.

In the javelin, Tucker Machart fired a toss of 39.63m to finish in ninth place.

Southwest Minnesota State will next be in action competing at the NSIC Championships in Duluth on May 13-15.
