PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall boys golf takes out Worthington in dual

WORTHINGTON — The Marshall boys golf team defeated Worthington 167-181 in a dual meet on Friday.

Jayden Manthei shot a 39 to earn medalist honors for Marshall while Luke Ehlers fired a round of 40 to placed second. Grant Horvath took fifth with a score of 43 while Evan Franson and Sam Schwarz tied for sixth with 45s and Joey Fossum had a 47 to take ninth to round out their scores.

“It was an ideal scoring day with the stellar weather conditions. I was really proud of Jayden’s consistent round; he was able to fend off any big numbers resulting in 5 pars and 4 bogeys and his confidence was definitely showing through,” Marshall coach Kari Ehlers said. “Grant was able to step in the top scores with a 43. I enjoyed seeing Grant have some success at the course knowing that he worked hard to improve his game last summer. The only bad hole he had included an out-of-bounds, but other than that, his 43 was a welcome score to our team total.  Luke Ehlers had a 40 today with two double bogeys. Getting his tee shot to straighten out is something Luke needs to do to ensure he is hitting more greens.”

Marshall will compete next today at Fairmont at 9:30 a.m.
