PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall boys golf takes first in Pipestone meet

PIPESTONE – The Marshall boys golf team shot a combined score of 337 to win a Big South Conference event by 10 strokes on Monday.

Tigers coach Kari Ehlers said the windy weather created less-than ideal playing conditions for the golfers.

“I was really impressed with the mental toughness our boys brought to the course today,” coach Ehlers said. “It was an exhausting day both physically and mentally.”

Marshall was led by eighth-grader Luke Ehlers, who carded a 77 to tie for second individually one stroke behind medalist Henry Hartquist of Luverne.

“Luke hit half of the greens in regulation which is very good on a windy day like today,” coach Ehlers said. “He was able to card 2 birdies as well while playing very consistently.”

Grant Horvath added an 83 to place sixth, followed by Evan Franson in eighth place at 87. Sam Schwarz completed the Marshall score witth a 90.
