MARSHALL -- With a quick signature, the next step to Emily Meier's athletic career was complete. The Marshall senior signed her National Letter of Intent to play basketball at the University of Jamestown in Jamestown, N.D.

Meier said it felt good to finally have this day come and officially be committed.

"It feels good to finally have it official," Meier said. "I've been debating it probably since volleyball season so it's good to finally have it be done and be signed."

Meier said she was unsure that she wanted to play a sport in college and was ready to focus on going into her major in nursing, but after visiting the Jamestown campus and the basketball program she knew it was the right fit. The Jimmies went 15-11 this past season.

"I wasn't sure if I was going to continue [to play] just because I was going to go into nursing and I didn't know if it would be too much and I didn't know where in nursing I wanted to go but I just visited Jamestown and I knew I wanted to go there," Meier said.

The past few years, Meier has been a key contributor to Marshall's success on the hardwood in both volleyball and basketball. In volleyball this past fall, she had 101 kills, 52 digs and 16 blocks. This past winter, Meier averaged 12 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while also recording 38 steals.

Meier attributed that success to the impact her coaches and teammates have had on her. She said her coaches have been with her since the beginning and she's grateful for all they've done for her.

"Mr. Westby was my JO volleyball coach early on and has been my coach ever since and he's had a huge impact, especially with the other coaches as well," Meier said. "Coach [Stephanie] Bot I visit her in lunch all of the time and we talk and I feel like I've had a good relationship with all of the coaches and they've had a huge impact on me."

Meier added her teammates, especially her fellow seniors, have had a positive impact on her and they've been able to grow together since the start.

"I feel like with the seniors we've been together since the beginning so we've grown together and they've also had a huge impact on me," Meier said.

Going into next year, Meier said she's looking forward to getting back onto the court again and being in a new environment.

"Being able to play basketball again and just the new environment and being able to continue to play," Meier said.
