SMSU GOLF: SMSU in fifth place following round one of NSIC Championships

MORTON — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s golf team shot an opening round score of 42-over 330 and is currently in fifth place at the 54-hole, 13-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship played at the 5,906-yard, par-72, Dacotah Ridge Golf Club.

Augustana is the team leader after round one with a score of 8-over 296. The University of Sioux Falls is in second place at 22-over 310. Alex Stone from Augustana is the individual leader at even-par 72.

SMSU trails fourth place Concordia-St. Paul by six shots and third place Minnesota State by seven shots.

SMSU’s Hannah Kohls and Sally Gallagher both shot sub-80 rounds on Friday with Kohls carding a 6-over 78, while Gallagher shot a 7-over 79. Kohls closed the round with one birdie, 10 pars and seven bogeys and is currently in a tie for eighth place. Gallagher finished with a pair of birdies, 10 pars and four bogeys and is tied for 14th place.

Lauryn Driscoll is currently tied for 34th following a round of 13-over 85, which featured eight pars and seven bogeys. Jacqueline Gossen finished with a 16-over 88 and is in a tied for 42nd after closing with eight pars and six bogeys. Anneke Weg also competed for the Mustangs and shot a 21-over 93 with five pars and six bogeys and is tied for 49th.
