MARSHALL — The Marshall gymnastics team came back home Friday to host Jackson County Central in a dual meet. Although, they would ultimately come up short against JCC (133.600-111.900), Marshall coach Matt Versaevel said they’ve been working on a lot of new skills recently and was pleased with their overall effort as a group.

“They did a great job. We threw a lot of new skills on varsity, stuff that we haven’t really done for a while or done at all, so we expected some of the connections and losing some points for that,” Versaevel said. “But they’ve been doing really well with all of the new skills, so for next time we just need to polish up the new skills that we have and go from there.”

Clara Bader led Marshall with scores of 8.600 on vault (second place), 5.900 on the uneven bars and 7.200 on both the balance beam and in the floor exercise for an all-around score of 28.900 and a second-place finish. Kaylee VanHauwaert added scores of 8.000 on vault, 6.750 on bars, 6.200 on beam and 6.750 on floor for an all-around score of 27.700 and a third-place finish while Fran Lubenow had an 8.200 on vault and 6.300 on floor and Gabbi Schlenner had a 5.100 on bars.

Janee Patterson had a 5.175 on bars while Jocelyn Schlenner added an 8.175 on vault, 5.950 on beam and 7.550 on floor and Leah Matzner had an 8.350 on vault, and 6.750 on beam. Reagan Brandt added a 5.500 on beam and a 7.050 on floor while Sydney Brandt had a 6.100 on bars to add to the Marshall effort.

Marshall will compete next on Thursday at Windom Area at 6 p.m.
