TUESDAY PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall boys hockey falls to Redwood Valley, 6-5

REDWOOD FALLS — The Marshall boys hockey team fell to Redwood Valley 6-5 on Tuesday.

Marshall jumped out to an early lead when Logan Deutz scored on the assist from Justin Cavazos 3:31 into the first period to make it 1-0 before adding a goal from Braxton Meyer on the assist from Corbin Beernaert and Talan Plante to push the lead to 2-0 just 37 seconds into the second period.

But Redwood Valley had an answer, scoring four times in the span of five minutes to take a 4-2 lead. Marshall would respond with consecutive goals from Wyatt Boerboom (assisted by Jackson Bladholm) and Jared Reinsma (assisted by Meyer), respectively, a couple of minutes later to tie it up, but the Cardinals got another goal in the frame to make it 5-4 after two.

In the third, Marshall was able to tie things up again when Deutz found the back of the net with 10 minutes left, but Redwood Valley answered with another goal with six minutes to play to ultimately earn the 6-5 victory.

Marshall outshot Redwood Valley 45-35 on the game. Ezra Maurice recorded 29 saves in net for Marshall.

Marshall (3-8) will face Hutchinson on the road on Friday at 7 p.m.

Girls basketball

MVL 54, Wabasso 52

NEW ULM — The Wabasso girls basketball team fell to Minnesota Valley Lutheran 54-52 on Tuesday.

Kelsey Fischer led Wabasso with 16 points while Kelsey Frank added 15 and Sarah Franta had eight. Bella Brand led in rebounds with nine while Franta led in assists with four.

Wabasso (6-5) will face New Ulm Cathedral on the road on Friday at 7:15 p.m.

WWG 53, HLO/Fulda 41

WESTBROOK — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove girls basketball team defeated Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 53-41 on Tuesday.

Olivia Klumper led WWG with 17 points while Beth Byers added 12 and Isabel Klumper had nine. No other stats were available at press time.

WWG (5-6) will face HBC on the road on Friday at 7:15 p.m.

Boys basketball

TMB 61, Canby 50

CANBY — The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys basketball team defeated Canby 61-50 on Tuesday.

Christian Wendland led TMB with 21 points while Noah Swenhaugen added 16 and Jake Turner had 10. Turner led in rebounds with 10 while Wendland led in assists with six.

Evan Weber led Canby with 14 points while Will Varcoe added 11 and Jordan Ries had eight. Varcoe led in rebounds with 14 while Weber and Varcoe led in steals with three each.

TMB (8-4) will face RRC on the road today at 7:15 p.m. while Canby (2-10) will face Lakeview at home today at 7:15 p.m.

Wrestling

TMB/WWG triangular

TRACY — A couple of area wrestling teams competed in the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove triangular on Tuesday. TMB/WWG split a pair of duals, defeating Adrian Area 51-19 and falling to Canby 37-33. Canby also defeated Adrian 48-26.

For TMB/WWG, against Adrian, Devin Carter, Jacob Meyer and Caden Johnson won by fall, Alexander Schuh, Ayden Horner, Gabe Krick and Nic Willhite won by forfeit and Linkoln Carlson, Jayden Torgeson and Travis Willhite won by decision.

Against Canby, Carter, Horner, Krick and Johnson won by fall, Carlson won by decision and Eathan Martinez won by forfeit for TMB/WWG. Lane Fink, Parker Verhelst, Josh Steffen and Shane Noyes won by fall, Lincoln Fink, Nick Wagner and Sawyer Drietz won by decision and Tanner Drietz won by major decision for Canby.

For Canby, against Adrian, Lincoln Fink, Blake Giese, Easton Antony, Tanner Drietz and Steffen won by forfeit, Sawyer Drietz and Verhelst won by fall and Eli Greenman and Lane Fink won by decision.

TMB/WWG will compete today at Fulda/MCC at 5 p.m. while Canby will compete next on Saturday at Benson at 10 a.m.
