SMSU SOFTBALL: Mustangs take on Minot State today in St. Cloud

MARSHALL — The Southwest Minnesota State University softball team (4-2) continues non-conference play today with a doubleheader versus Minot State University (7-1) at the Husky Dome on the campus of St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minn. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.

•SMSU, which won four games to open the season nearly two weeks ago in St. Cloud, is coming off a pair of losses to nationally-ranked Winona State last Friday.

•MSU, which was selected to finish eighth in the preseason NSIC Coaches’ Poll, was 10-6 in 2020 before the season was shutdown.

•Following today’s games, SMSU will return to the diamond on March 7 with a doubleheader versus Northern State inside the Presentation Dome in Aberdeen, S.D.

Minot State

•Minot State is 7-1 overall following four wins last weekend at home inside the MSU Dome. The Beavers defeated UMary twice along with Northern State and Bemidji State.

•MSU pitcher Trinity Valentine was named the NSIC Pitcher of the Week on Monday finishing with a 3-0 record and a 0.00 ERA in 12 innings with 15 strikeouts.

•SMSU and MSU meet for the 14th and 15th time Friday night with MSU leading 7-6.

•The teams first met in 2013 when MSU joined the NSIC.
