PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall wrestling splits pair of duals

HUTCHINSON — The Marshall wrestling team split a pair of duals on Saturday, falling to Big Lake 44-29 and defeating Hutchinson 37-29.

Against Big Lake, Dylan Louwagie, Lucas Stelter and Grant Louwagie won by fall while Tate Condezo won by decision and Collin Klenken and Spencer Wambeke won by major decision for Marshall.

Against Hutchinson, Drew Chandler, Dylan Louwagie, Tate Condezo, Grant Louwagie and Keiton Walarius won by fall while Brett Regnier won by major decision and Tucker Fiene won by decision for Marshall.

Marshall will compete next on Tuesday at Pipestone Area at 5 p.m.

Wabasso

WABASSO — The Wabasso wrestling team split a pair of duals on Saturday, falling to Redwood Valley 43-36 and defeating BOLD 54-20.

For Wabasso, against Redwood Valley, Adryen Tietz, Tyler Bliss and Jaxon Fischer won by fall while Gabe Martin, Carter Benz and Hunter Taylor won by forfeit.

Against BOLD, Mikale Goblirsch, Benz and Bliss won by fall while Gavin Marotzke, Dominic Jenniges, Jayson Marotzke, Sam Welch and Taylor won by forfeit and Martin and Chase Irlbeck won by decision for Wabasso.

Wabasso will compete next on Thursday at home against Ortonville at 7 p.m.

Canby triangular

CANBY — Multiple area wrestling teams competed in the Canby triangular on Saturday, with Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle/Montevideo United defeating Red Rock Central 66-9 and Canby 54-22. Canby also defeated RRC 51-25.

For United, against RRC, Daniel Gunlogson won by forfeit, Kameron Sather and Trevon Johnson won by decision and Ethan Moravetz, Tyler Schickedanz, Zander Clausen, Landen Knoshal, Mason McDougal, Dain Mortenson, Avery Wittnebel, Landon Olson and Parker Bothun won by fall. Damian Osland won by fall while Cory Anderson won by decision for RRC.

Against Canby, Gunlogson, Schickedanz, Clausen, Kadin Huntley, Wittnebel, Johnson and Bothun won by fall, Sather and Mortenson won by decision and Trey Teichert won by forfeit for United. Lane Fink, Lincoln Fink and Josh Steffen won by fall while Parker Verhelst won by major decision for Canby.

For Canby, against RRC, Brodyrck Gravdal, Lane Fink, Lincoln Fink, Nick Wagner, Sawyer Drietz, Tanner Drietz and Easton Antony won by fall, Blake Giese won by decision and Steffen won by forfeit. Evan Bartholomaus and Gavin Hesse won by tech fall, Osland won by fall, Vander Mathiowetz won by decision and Anderson won by forfeit for RRC.

Canby will compete on Tuesday at TMB/WWG at 5 p.m. while United will compete on Tuesday at home against Border West and Morris Area at 5 p.m. and RRC will compete on Thursday at Fulda/MCC at 5 p.m.

Girls basketball

Lakeview 67, RCW 49

COTTONWOOD — The Lakeview girls basketball team defeated Renville County West 67-49 on Saturday.

Payton Timm and Shelby Gravley led Lakeview with 14 points each while Savanna Louwagie added 11. Gravley led in rebounds with nine while Kiana Imes led in assists with six.

Lakeview (8-3) will face Canby at home on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

Friday boys basketball

RTR 78, Canby 62

CANBY — The Canby boys basketball team fell to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 78-62 on Friday.

Will Varcoe led Canby with 15 points while Evan Weber added 14 and Michael Tol had 10. Varcoe led in rebounds with 16 while Jordan Ries led in assists with three.

Darrick Baartman led RTR with 19 points while Dylan Anderson added 14 and Aiden Wichmann and Hayden Gravley had 13 each. Baartman led in rebounds with nine while Aiden Wichmann led in assists with six.

Canby (2-9) will face TMB at home Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. while RTR (6-4) will play at HBC Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
