MARSHALL -- With a quick scribble of the pen, the next step to Ivan Celedon's athletic career was complete. The Marshall senior signed his National Letter of Intent to play soccer at Crown College on Wednesday.
Celedon said he's relieved to finally have this day come and he's excited about the future.
"It feels really good," Celedon said. "I've been waiting for this and it's been something that I've dreamed of for a long time, so I'm just excited that it's finally out of the way and I can look forward to the future."
Celedon said what drew him to Crown College was the "at-home" atmosphere and that it was the right environment for him. He added he plans to major in sports management.
"When I went on my visit there, the coaches and just everybody there were really nice to me and it just felt like it was a good environment and something that I wanted to be a part of," Celedon said.
The last few years, Celedon has been a key contributor to Marshall's success on the field, including helping lead them to the Section 2A semifinals this past fall. He attributed that success to the impact his coaches and teammates have had on him.
Celedon said his coaches have taught him a lot both on and off the field.
"My coaches have been really important to me, same with my dad who was a coach for a little bit," Celedon said. "They've all really made a huge impact on my life and they've taught me a lot of things both on and off the field."
Celedon added his teammates have done a lot for him and he's grateful for their support.
"They've done a lot for me," Celedon said. "I wouldn't be here without them, they've definitely helped me out all of the time and I'm very thankful and I'm going to miss them."
Crown College will begin its 2020-21 season on April 3 after having its season postponed last fall due to COVID-19.
Going into next year, Celedon said he's looking forward to meeting new people and making an impact right away on the program.
"I'm looking forward to meeting a lot of new people and hopefully get a lot of playing time and just try to change the culture that they have," Celedon said. "They've got a bright future on that team, so I'm looking forward to hopefully winning some championships, too."
