MARSHALL — The Marshall gymnastics team came back home Monday night to host Pipestone Area in a dual meet. Although they would ultimately come up short against the Arrows (121.250-107.375), Marshall coach Matt Versaevel said they are working on building up their skills early on in the season and felt they made strong improvements from their first meet on Thursday.

“We’re just working on building our skills,” Versaevel said. “They’re doing awesome, they definitely got the nerves out from the first meet and they’re getting a lot better and improving every day and every practice.”

Clara Bader led Marshall with scores of 8.425 on vault (fourth place), 5.900 on the uneven bars (third place), 8.200 on the balance beam (first place) and 7.250 in the floor exercise for an all-around score of 29.775 and a third-place finish. Franziska Lubenow had scores of 7.700 on vault, 3.600 on bars, 4.550 on beam and 6.500 on floor for an all-around score of 22.350 while Jocelyn Schlenner recorded scores of 7.500 on vault, 6.650 on beam and 7.400 on floor (fourth place) for an all-around score of 21.550.

Reagan Brandt had scores of 3.800 on bars and 7.050 on beam for an all-around score of 10.850 while Sydney Brandt had a 7.950 on vault and 5.600 on bars (fourth place) for an all-around score of 13.550. Janee Patterson added a 7.650 on vault and a 5.600 on bars for an all-around score of 13.250 while Gabriella Schlenner had a 5.550 on floor, Maggie Tabaka had a 6.000 on beam and Kendal Walerius had a 5.700 on floor to add to the Marshall effort.

Marshall will compete next on Thursday against Worthington at 7:15 p.m. Versaevel said they just need to continue to clean things up and they’ll be able to come away with some more points to their total.

“The biggest thing that we saw was just cleaning up everything,” Versaevel said. “We can easily make a few individual points and overall team points by just cleaning everything up and getting those connections in between the skills.”
