Mustangs record three first place finishes in dual loss to Dragons

MOORHEAD — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s swimming team recorded three first place finishes and numerous second place finishes, but MSU Moorhead was able to rack up diving and relay points in earning a 143-78 victory on Saturday at Nemzek Pool on the campus of MSUM.

Annika Freiburger captured first place for SMSU in the 800 yard freestyle with a time of 9:16.66, while also capturing second place in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:20.48. She also finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:13.20.

Kendyl Near also recorded a first place time for the Mustangs in the 200 yard IM just ahead of Freiburger with a time of 2:16.69. Near also picked up a second place finish in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.23.

SMSU’s MacKenzie Kallevig touched the wall first to win the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:38.86 and earned a second place finish in the 50 yard freestyle at 25.84.

Addi Schroeder finished with a time of 2:06.98 in the 200 yard freestyle to finish in second place.

Southwest Minnesota State returns to action on Thursday with a dual at St. Cloud State.
