MARSHALL — The Marshall Amateur Hockey Association Squirt B Orange team opened the season with a pair of wins over the weekend, defeating Luverne White 5-1 on Saturday and Lakes Area 8-4 on Sunday.

In their first game, the Tigers took a 2-0 lead after two periods. Colby Gunther connected with Aric Ewald at 5:45 in the first and Liam Deutz scored unassisted at 11:29 in the second.

Deutz would score early in the third to make it 3-0 before the Cardinals would sneak one in, but Marshall answered. Morgan Rokeh scored at 8:01 with assists from Deutz and Braylon Oey. Chase Renken would find Deutz for the final goal of the game and the hat trick giving the Tigers the 5-1 win.

On Sunday the Tigers again took the lead early when Alex Reaves found Oey in front of the net. Lakes Area would take a 2-1 lead midway through the first period, but Deutz tied it up with an unassisted goal.

The second period mirrored the first with Deutz giving Marshall the lead again, but another pair of Lakes Area goals would put them back on top. With under a minute to play in the period Deutz connected with Ewald to tie the game 4-4.

The third period started off slow, but turned into four goals for the Tigers. Wyatt Dorschner started the scoring with a Deutz pass, followed by a Reaves goal with assists from Rokeh and Oey, another unassisted hat trick goal for Deutz, and Ewald capping the 8-4 win with an assist from Deutz.
