PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Minneota cruises past MACCRAY, 34-8

MINNEOTA — The No. 1 Minneota football team defeated No. 8 MACCRAY 34-8 in the Section 5A quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Conner Sik recorded 90 rushing yards while AJ Josephson added 71 yards on the ground and two touchdowns and Anthony Rybinski had 40 yards and a score. Jacob Hennen completed seven of his 19 pass attempts for 79 yards while adding 37 rushing yards and a touchdown. Joey Rybinski had four catches for 44 yards.

Defensively, Jonah Gruenes had five total tackles while Hennen and Josephson each added four total tackles.

Minneota (7-0) will face No. 5 LQPV on Saturday at 3 p.m.

No. 5 LQPV 12, No. 4 Lakeview 0

COTTONWOOD — The No. 4 Lakeview football team fell to No. 5 Lac qui Parle Valley 12-0 in the Section 5A quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Owen Louwagie completed eight of his 16 pass attempts for 60 yards while Brock Kvistad had 36 rushing yards on five carries and Nathan Fenske hauled in six catches for 55 yards.

Defensively, Kvistad recorded 12.5 total tackles while Caine Herigon added 9.5 total tackles.

With the loss, Lakeview’s season comes to an end at 4-3.

Section 3A

No. 2 Wabasso 48, No. 7 MCW 0

WABASSO — The No. 2 Wabasso football team defeated No. 7 Martin County West 48-0 in the Section 3A quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Carter Benz completed five of his seven pass attempts for 124 yards and a touchdown while also adding 40 yards on the ground and another score. Nick Marotzke had 114 yards rushing on 11 carries and two touchdowns while Hunter Taylor added 33 yards and a touchdown and Wyatt Soupir had a 20-yard run for another score. Colby Wall had two catches for 78 yards and a touchdown while Will Carlson added 41 yards on two catches.

Defensively, Sam Rudenick recorded seven total tackles for Wabasso while Benz added 6.5 total tackles. Taylor also had a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Wabasso (6-1) will face the winner of No. 3 Springfield and No. 6 Sleepy Eye on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Prep volleyball

RRC 3, SWC 1

EDGERTON — The Red Rock Central volleyball team defeated Southwest Minnesota Christian 3-1 (25-19, 25-19, 17-25, 25-18) on Tuesday.

Karli Arkell recorded 14 kills for RRC while Nicole Schroepfer added seven and Josie Horning had five. Bianca Weis had 15 digs while Arkell added nine and Schroepfer had eight. Schroepfer also recorded 13 set assists while Lilly Stavnes and Arkell each added seven.

RRC (9-2) will face Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda on Friday at 7 p.m. in Okabena.
