JUNIOR HOCKEY: Ice Dogs drop series to undefeated Aberdeen

ABERDEEN — The Fairbanks Ice Dogs’ quest to find the win column will have to wait at least one more week after the team was swept by the Aberdeen Wings (7-0) this past weekend on the road.

In Friday’s matchup, the Ice Dogs went into the first intermission with a 1-1 tie after Laker Aldridge found the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Mason Plante picked up the primary assist on the goal and Daniel Juzych recorded the secondary assist.

The Wings went on to outscore the Ice Dogs 5-2 in the final two periods with Bret Link and Jasper Lester adding goals for Fairbanks. Kaleb Welvaert and Scott McKenzie picked up the assists. Ice Dogs netminder Austin Ryman finished with 20 saves on 25 shots.

The Ice Dogs were put behind the eight ball in Saturday’s matchup after falling behind 3-0 through two periods.

Despite a goal by Brendan Miles in the third period, the Ice Dogs were unable to mount a comeback and fell 4-1. Goalie Kayden Hargraves stopped 27 of 30 shots for Fairbanks.
