PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Wabasso blanks Springfield 31-0

WABASSO — The Wabasso football team defeated Springfield 31-0 to begin their season on Friday night.

Carter Benz led the way for Wabasso with 136 yards passing on 11 completions and two touchdowns while Nick Marotzke added 79 yards on the ground on 18 carries and a touchdown. Benz also added 27 yards on the ground and a score. Will Carlson led in receiving with 64 yards on five catches.

Wabasso (1-0) will face MVL on Thursday at 8 p.m.

MACCRAY 1

TYLER — The Russell-Tyler-Ruthton volleyball team began the season with a 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 22-25, 27-25) victory over MACCRAY on Thursday.

Haley Muenchow led the way for RTR with 13 kills while Ella Hesse added nine. Maddi Wendland led in digs with 22 while Hesse had 21 and McKinley Schreurs led in set assists with 21 while Kalleigh Carr had 15.

RTR (1-0) will face RCW on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

YME Invite

GRANITE FALLS — Multiple area teams competed at the YME Invite on Thursday. On the girls side, Canby/Minneota took first with a team score of 17, followed by Border West in second (60), Lakeview in third (68) and YME in fourth (101). Russell-Tyler-Ruthton recorded an incomplete team score.

For Canby/Minneota, Grace Drietz led the way with a first-place time of 19:23 while Claire Stoks took second with a time of 20:20, Braelyn Merritt took third with a time of 20:38 and Mckenzie Ruether took fourth with a time of 21:26. Natalie Stoks took seventh with a time of 24:10 while Hannah Fadness took eighth with a time of 24:46 and Lillie Wollum took 10th with a time of 25:23. Jaelin Anderson took 13th with a time of 25:56 while Rachel Wollum took 18th with a time of 26:28 and Isabel Thompson took 30th with a time of 30:18 to round out their times.

For Lakeview, Sadie Vlaminck led the way with a fifth-place time of 22:02 while Erin Meyer took 14th with a time of 26:04 and Savannah Louwagie took 16th with a time of 26:20. Faith Louwagie took 19th with a time of 26:30 while Lucee Olson took 28th with a time of 29:15 and Kaitlyn Bot took 35th with a time of 31:47 to round out their times.

For YME, Sanjana Pullan led the way with a 15th-place time of 26:11 while Anjali Pullan took 24th with a time of 28:05 and Brylea Ruff-Mulligan took 25th with a time of 28:25. Izabella Anderson took 31st with a time of 30:43 while Violet Anderson took 33rd with a time of 31:10 to round out their times.

For RTR, Autumn LaBrune led the way with a ninth-place time of 25:10 while Faith Thomsen took 17th with a time of 26:22, Kate Cowell took 26th with a time of 28:31 and Clara Pagel took 27th with a time of 28:49 to round out their times.

On the boys side, Canby/Minneota took first with a team score of 20, followed by Border West in second (41). Lakeview, YME and RTR all recorded incomplete team scores.

For Canby/Minneota, Blake Stoks led the way with a first-place time of 18:00 while Kolton Duis took second (18:04) and Zach Ourada took fifth with a time of 18:49. Tristen Bierschenk (19:23), Blake Giese (19:33), Colton Ruether (19:51) and Sam Skorczewski (20:19) took the 7th-10th spots, respectively, while Isaac Bach took 12th with a time of 20:38. Nicholas Full (21:05), Hunter Cleveland (21:14) and Caleb Danielson (21:17) took the 15th-17th spots, respectively, while Joseph Wollum took 26th (22:25) and Logan Myhre took 29th (22:58) to round out their times.

For Lakeview, Ethan Schwankl led the way with a fourth-place time of 18:45 while Cole Arends took 14th with a time of 20:50, Cole Remiger took 25th with a time of 22:18 and Selby Anderson took 32nd with a time of 25:07 to round out their times.

For YME, Tyler Syring led the way with an 11th-place time of 20:36 while Ean Clarke took 21st with a time of 21:37, Silas Ramirez took 24th with a time of 22:10 and Luis Guzman took 31st with a time of 24:36 to round out their times.

For RTR, Aidan Johnson led the way with a 17th-place time of 21:17 while Logan Roelofs took 23rd with a time of 21:49 and Steve Perslin took 33rd with a time of 26:32 to round out their times.
