MARSHALL — Southwest Minnesota State University left-handed pitcher John Bezdicek was named to the 2020 Northwoods League Postseason All-Star team the league announced on Tuesday morning.

A native of Plymouth, Bezdicek played for the Willmar Stingers and was one of just 14 pitchers and 39 total players to earn the honor. This season, the Northwoods League featured 22 teams participating in 15 ballparks and played nearly 500 games across six different pods.

Bezdicek finished the summer season tossing a team-high 36 1/3 innings with 44 strikeouts and just nine walks. In seven starts, he had a record of 4-1 with an ERA of 2.23, while opponents hit just .201 against him. In his final two starts of the season, he combined to strikeout 23 batters in 13 1/3 innings.

Bezdicek finished his shortened 2020 junior season for the Mustangs starting three games and tossing 18 innings with a 2.00 ERA last spring. He closed the season recording 29 strikeouts and allowed just two walks. He tied a career-high with 14 strikeouts in six innings versus Minnesota Duluth on Feb. 27 and racked up eight strikeouts in seven innings versus Concordia-St. Paul on March 5.

Bezdicek will be entering his fourth season with the SMSU program in 2020-21.
