SMSU SAAC to host ‘Suicide Prevention Virtual Event’

MARSHALL — The month of September is Suicide Prevention Month and the Southwest Minnesota State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is bringing awareness to this cause and needs your help.

SMSU’s SAAC group is holding a “Suicide Prevention Virtual Event” through the end of the month. Please join SAAC and participate in an activity and show our support for those who battle with suicide.

To participate, all individuals need to do is complete an activity (walking, jogging, yoga, riding a bike, meditation, etc.) and then make a sign using the following slogan: “I’m (insert activity) from (insert your state) to show you are not alone!”

Please take a picture or video with your sign before, during or after your activity and post it on social media. Please “tag” SMSU SAAC (@SMSUSAAC) and use the hashtag #YouAreNotAlone.

The SMSU SAAC has set a goal to get participants from all 50 states in the two-week span. Please help SMSU SAAC in our efforts to prevent suicide from taking the lives of loved ones. We can’t wait to see your posts. Let’s Ride!

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 1-800-273-8255, or to reach out to the Crisis Text Line, please text “TALK” to 741741.
