Milroy Yankees fall just short of state with 8-6 loss to Regal

STARBUCK — The Milroy Yankees amateur baseball team needed a pair of victories on Saturday to keep its season alive in the Region 4C tournament and earn a trip to the Class C tournament, which it will be serving as a host site along with Springfield. The Yankees were able to take down Raymond 11-3 to advance to the next round, but then saw its quest for a state trip fall just one win short, as Milroy fell to Regal 8-6 and have its season come to an end.

Against Raymond, Brian Dolan led the way for the Yankees with four hits and four RBI while Derek Rasmussen added three hits and Eric Dolan and Matt Bauer each had a hit and two RBI, including a home run by Bauer.

Isaac Schmitt earned the complete-game victory on the mound, allowing three runs on six hits and struck out 10.

Against Regal, Aaron Mathiowetz led the way for the Yankees with four hits while Bauer added three hits, including a home run, and five RBI and David and Andy Schmidt each had two hits.

Austin Deutz took the loss on the mound, going two innings while allowing six runs on six hits. Nathan Deutz tossed seven innings in relief, allowing two runs on eight hits and struck out six.

With the loss, the Yankees finish their season with an overall record of 15-7-1.
