WEDNESDAY AMATEUR BASEBALL: A’s fall short against Bird Island, 7-6

BIRD ISLAND — The Marshall amateur baseball team dropped its first game in Minnesota on Wednesday, falling 7-6 to Bird Island in an “exhibition” contest. The A’s trailed by four runs heading into the ninth inning, but a late rally attempt came up just short.

Alex Thompson, Zach Olson and Ryan Schwagel led the way for the A’s with two hits apiece, with Olson and Schwagel combining for three RBI. Matt Hmielewski, King Blanchette and Dillon Loft each added a hit for Marshall.

Logan Terfehr took the loss on the mound for Marshall, going 5 2/3 innings while allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out seven. Olson tossed the final 2 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on four hits while striking out two.

Marshall will face Sacred Heart today at 7:30 p.m. before holding their home opener on Sunday against Raymond at 5 p.m.
