Milroy, Dawson, Minneota play in SD

MARSHALL — Area amateur baseball games continued over the weekend, with the Milroy Irish, Dawson Drakes and Minneota Mudhens all playing in South Dakota.

AURORA, S.D. — The Milroy Irish continued their hot start to the season on Sunday, as they defeated Aurora (S.D.) 20-4 in seven innings.

Dominic Dolan led the way for the Irish with a 5 for 6 day at the plate with three doubles and four RBI while Anthony Dolan broke a single-game record for Milroy with six walks. The Irish had 13 hits on the game while Aurora (S.D.) was held to just two.

Cody Mather earned the victory on the mound, allowing no hits while striking out nine.

The Irish (3-0) are scheduled to play next Saturday in a doubleheader against Brandon Valley (S.D.) and Adrian at 2 and 4 p.m., respectively, in Brandon Valley (S.D.).


CASTLEWOOD, S.D. — After dropping their first two games of the season last weekend, the Drakes bounced back into the win column, as Dawson defeated the Castlewood (S.D.) Ravens 14-4 before beating the Castlewood (S.D.) Monarchs 12-2 in six innings.

Against the Ravens, Tyler Franzky and Nolan Harding led the way offensively for Dawson while Braden Thompson earned the victory on the mound.

Against the Monarchs, Austin Schmitt, Esten Weber and Josh Staab led the way for the Drakes with multiple hits. Braxton Thompson, Alex Swenson and Derek Gritmacker all tossed on the mound.

Dawson’s (2-2) next game is TBD.


CASTLEWOOD/BRYANT, S.D. — The Mudhens opened their season on Friday against Castlewood (S.D.). Minneota held the lead for the majority of the game, but the Monarchs used a ninth-inning rally to top the Mudhens 14-11. On Sunday, Minneota played a doubleheader in Bryant (S.D.) and came away with its first two wins of the season. The Mudhens defeated Bryant (S.D.) 20-1 before rolling past Rosen 7-2. No stats were available at press time.

Minneota’s (2-1) next game is TBD.
