SMSU golf announces third signing for 2020-21 season

MARSHALL — Southwest Minnesota State University head women’s golf coach Ross Webskowski announced on Wednesday Ashley Trongard from Olivia, has signed a letter of intent to continue her academic and golf career at SMSU.

Trongard, a senior at BOLD High School, is a three-time all-conference and an all-state honoree in golf and helped BOLD to the 2019 Class A state championship. Trongard placed tied for seventh at the 2019 state meet with rounds of 86 and 87. BOLD also won the 2017 state championships with Trongard placing sixth overall and finished fourth in 2018 with Trongard finishing 23rd.

“Ashley is a well-rounded athlete who comes from a strong high school golf program and has the skills to become a great college golfer,” Webskowski said.

“Through her experience in guiding her team to winning the State Championship last year, Ashley will be able to bring leadership to our program. She is good student in the classroom and will fit in well at SMSU. We are very excited to add Ashley to the Mustang family.”

Trongard is also a two-time all-conference honoree for the Warriors in both volleyball and basketball and has been named academic all-conference in volleyball, basketball and golf.

Trongard is the third student-athlete to sign with the SMSU women’s golf program for the 2020-21 season, joining Lauryn Driscoll from Hartford, S.D. (West Central High School) and Jacqueline Gossen from Brooten, (Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa High School), who signed earlier this academic year.
