MANKATO -- The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s and men’s indoor track & field teams put together one of its best meets in program history on Friday and Saturday setting four school records at the Minnesota State Mark Schuck Open inside Myers Field House.
Kayla Jansky set a pair of school records for the Mustangs, on Friday night she won the 500 meters with a school record time of 1:22.23, while on Saturday she ran a program best 2:24.48 to finish sixth in the 800 meters.
Rebecca Manteuffel finished second in the weight with a school record toss of 18.86m on Saturday, which ranks among the top five in Division II this season. She also placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.46m.
Ashlyn Jones tied the school record in the high jump at 1.63m to finish in first place out of nearly 20 competitors on Saturday.
Isatu Shirek advanced to the finals in the 60 meter hurdles and finished in fourth place with a time of 9.29.
For the SMSU men’s team on Friday, Trinity Brady set a new school mark in the 500 meters with a first place time of 1:08.02.
Quan Williams just missed qualifying for the finals in the 60 meters and placed ninth with a time of 7.20.
Kyle Felling ran 50.96 in the 400 meters to finish second overall and also ran 23.12 in the 200 meters to earn a ninth place finish.
Isaiah Nelson recorded a mark of 13.59m in the triple jump to finish third overall, while Connor Wigand also finished in third in the shot put with a mark of 15.64m. Wigand also picked up a sixth place finish in the weight throw at 16.23m.
Renald Pierre and Nathan Stearns both moved to the finals in the 60 meter hurdles with Pierre placing fifth (8.76) and Stearns earning a seventh place time (9.41).
Southwest Minnesota State will return to Mankato next Saturday for the Minnesota State Nelson Classic.
