SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: Jones and Shirek set school marks for SMSU in Mankato

MANKATO — The Southwest Minnesota State women’s and men’s track & field teams once again competed at Myers Field House on the campus of Minnesota State on Saturday with several strong finishes at the Ted Nelson Classic.

Ashlyn Jones finished tied for second in the high jump with a school record mark of 1.67m, which ranks her among the top 30 in Division II.

Isatu Shirek ran a school record time of 9.13 in the 60 meter hurdles to advance to the finals where she placed seventh with a time of 9.28.

Kate Battaforyen competed in the shot put and finished 15th at 12.20m.

Sarah Strandemo ran 8.27 in the 60 meters to earn a 13th place finish.

For the SMSU men’s team, Kyle Felling placed 15th in the 60 meters crossing the line at 7.17, while teammate Quan Williams ranks 7.21 to finish 19th.

Trinity Brady finished 10th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:01.62.

Connor Wigand tossed the shot put 15.93m to earn third place and also placed fifth in the weight throw at 17.28m.

SMSU’s 4×400 relay team of Brady, Blian Dilly, Heven Valenzuela and Felling finished second with a time of 3:27.86.
