SECTION 3AA WRESTLING: Marshall sends school-record eight wrestlers to Class AA tournament

LUVERNE -- Saturday was a big wrestling day across the state of Minnesota, as wrestlers attempted to qualify as individuals for the state wrestling tournament held next weekend in St. Paul.
Locally, a total of nine individuals from teams in the Independent coverage area advanced to state in Class AA, including a school record eight from Marshall. The Tigers broke their own school record set a season ago.
Dylan Louwagie qualified for state after finishing second in Section 3AA at 113 pounds. He dropped the title bout to Ty Bisek (New London-Spicer) in a rematch of last year's section championship at 106 pounds. But in a battle for true second, Louwagie earned a 5-0 decision over Luverne's Riley Cowell to advance to state.
Hsa Khee Lar finished second at 120 to advance, dropping the championship match to Ethan Lebrija of MAHACA. It is his second time qualifying for state in three years.
Connor Roth will compete at state after placing second in Section 3AA at 132 pounds. After he was pinned by Blake Jagodzinske (Martin County) in the title bout, he responded in the true second match with a pin of his own, taking down Jackson Bode of New Ulm Area. At 152, Noah Jensen placed second after he was pinned by Payton Anderson of Martin County. Jensen also recorded his 100th career win during the tournament.
Grant Louwagie will be making a second consecutive state appearance. In the 152-pound bout for true second, he earned a pin over Layton Wittnebel in the final minute of the third period to clinch the berth.
In the 182-pound true second match, Spencer Wambeke recorded a 10-5 decision over Max Olson of Martin County. At 195 pounds, Cole Felcyn also moved on to state despite getting pinned in the first period of the title bout.
With an 8-3 decision over Cole Hennings of Worthington in the 220-pound title bout, Jaiden Bahr will be representing the Tigers at his third consecutive state tournament. His previous two appearances were at 195 pounds.
Also advancing to the Class AA Tournament will be Trevon Johnson of Team United (Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle Valley/Montevideo). Johnson took first place overall at 145 pounds with a 4-1 decision over Cale Steuber of Martin County.
The individual state tournament will take place this weekend at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
