SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: Mustangs with several strong finishes in first meet of 2020
MANKATO — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s and men’s track & field teams opened the 2020 calendar season on Sunday competing at the Minnesota State Invite inside Myers Field House.
Both teams had several strong performances on the day with a handful of top five performances.
For the Mustang women’s team, Rebecca Manteuffel finished in third place in the shot put with a mark of 13.44m and also placed fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 17.67m.
Kayla Jansky won her heat in the 1,000 meters and placed sixth overall with a time of 3:10.63.
Isatu Shirek advanced to the final and finished sixth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.46.
On the men’s side, Trinity Brady ran 1:25.38 in the 600 meters to finish in second place.
Connor Wigand recorded a toss of 15.0m in the shot put to place third, while Renald Pierre finished seventh in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.93.
Isaiah Nelson also scored team points for SMSU with an eighth place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 13.61m.
Southwest Minnesota State returns to action on Friday at the South Dakota State University D2 Invite in Brookings starting at 3 p.m.
