PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall boys hockey cruises past Redwood Valley

REDWOOD FALLS — The Marshall Tigers used a strong offensive performance to defeat Redwood Valley 7-2 on Tuesday.

The Tigers controlled the puck for most of the game, finishing with 48 shots on goal compared to just 15 shots for the Cardinals. Marshall goalie Dominik Caspers finished with 13 saves in the win.

The Tigers trailed 1-0 through the first period despite an 18-3 advantage in shots. The Tigers got on the board in the second on a pass from Bryson Whyte to Joe Archbold for the goal.

That was the first of four goals for Marshall in the period, as Jaden Gannott, Whyte and Tristan VanDeVere all recorded goals for the Tigers. In the period, Kaleb Welvaert notched his 100th career point with an assist.

A power play goal by VanDeVere opened the scoring in the final period, as he was assisted by Archbold and Welvaert.

After Redwood Valley scored its second goal, Welvaert and Whyte each put another goal on the board to finalize the win.

Marshall (14-6) will travel to Litchfield to face Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato on Saturday.

KERKHOVEN — Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg defeated Yellow Medicine East 61-52 on Tuesday.

Carter Sneller led the way for YME with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Kyle Chase added 15 points in the game, while Nikson Knapper finished with 10 points.

YME (0-11) will travel to Minnewaska Area on Friday.

Parker Hoffman added 10 points and six assists in the game, while Billy Errington finished with seven points and 11 rebounds.

Lakeview (9-5) will travel to Murray County Central on Thursday.

Will Carlson led the Rabbits with 21 points.

Isaac Kronback added 13 points and nine rebounds in the win while Colby Wall finished with nine points and seven rebounds.

Wabasso (6-10) will host Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Friday.

Jonah Christensen and Aiden Wichmann led RTR with 12 points apiece.

Payton Hess added six points in the win.

Tyler Winter scored 17 points to lead MCC.

RTR (4-11) will travel to Central Minnesota Christian on Thursday while MCC (3-11) will host Lakeview on Thursday.

WWG (3-9) will travel to Okabena to face Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda on Jan. 28.

Romell Horton led the way for Dawson-Boyd with 23 points while Zach Durfee added 18 and Mike Kvaal had 12. Durfee led in rebounds with 14 while Horton led in assists with four.

Dawson-Boyd will face Lakeview on Friday at 7:15 p.m.

Canby (5-9) will host Lac qui Parle Valley on Thursday. Tuesday night’s game against Ortonville was postponed due to poor weather and road conditions.
