SMSU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: SMSU faces St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth in first conference home weekend

MARSHALL — The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s basketball team (5-3, 0-3 NSIC) returns to the R/A Facility for its first conference home weekend of the season, starting with a 5:30 p.m. tip off versus St. Cloud State (4-3, 1-2 NSIC) on Friday.

•SMSU will then face Minnesota Duluth (6-3, 3-0 NSIC) on Saturday with a 4 p.m. tip off for State Farm Insurance night.

•Both games will be broadcast on 105.1 FM KARL with Ryan Rohlik providing play-by-play.

•Friday’s game will be broadcast live regionally on Midco Sports Network with David Brown and Brad Newitt.

•The 2019-20 season is the 51st of women’s collegiate basketball at SMSU and has amassed 599 all-time victories.

•Last weekend, SMSU went 0-2 in the first conference weekend of the season, falling 76-60 to Minnesota State and 82-79 to Concordia-St. Paul in overtime.

•Junior guard Meleah Reinhart is leading the Mustangs in scoring with 16.0 ppg and is 39 of 44 from the free throw line.

•Junior center Abuk Akoi leads the team in rebounding with 8.8 rpg. Akoi became the first Mustang this season to record a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds against CSP.

•Sophomore guard Jenna Borchers and Sadie Stelter have connected on a team-high 18 3-pointers. Stelter led the team points in both games last weekend, kick started with a team-high 17 versus MSU. Stelter and Borchers led with 21 points versus CSP and also became the second and third players to earn a 20-point game this season. Prior to, Reinhart was the only Mustang to earn this accolade.

•SMSU is averaging 72.5 ppg, while opponents are averaging 65.9 ppg.

•SMSU is shooting 37 percent from the field, 31 percent from the 3-point line, and 80 percent the free-throw line and has a plus-6.6 rebounding margin.

•Senior Caleigh Rodning is closing in on the title in free throws made, as she ranks second with 386 and is 23 from tying Andrea Schreier (1997-2001) for the all-time record of 409. She also ranks fourth in free throw pct. (83.6) and sixth in free throws attempts (464). Rodning is also five rebounds shy of becoming the 11th in player in team history to record 600 rebounds.

•Junior Abuk Akoi is sixth in team history with 106 blocked shots.

•Junior Meleah Reinhart ranks eighth in free throw pct. (78.8).

•Sophomore Jenna Borchers ranks fifth in three-point percentage (38.6).

•Junior Erin Baxter ranks sixth in free-throw percentage (80.8).

St. Cloud State

•This is the 55th meeting in series history, dating back to the 1969-70 season.

•SMSU trails the all-time series 39-16 and trails 19-9 in games played in Marshall.

•SCSU has won 12 straight in the all-time series with the last victory occurring on Feb. 12, 2010, with a 66-44 final in St. Cloud.

•The last victory in Marshall was a 59-47 victory on January, 15, 2010.
