SMSU WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL: Mustangs ready for four games in Missouri

MARSHALL — The Southwest Minnesota State University returns to the court this weekend with four games in Columbia, Mo., and hosted by the University of Missouri.

SMSU, which is 4-5 overall, is coming off a 2-3 weekend on Nov. 22-23 in Whitewater, Wis.

The Mustangs have two games today and two more on Saturday. SMSU faces the University of Missouri tonight at 6 p.m., before taking on the University of Arizona at 8 p.m. On Saturday, SMSU will battle Edinboro University at 9 a.m., before closing the weekend with an 11 a.m. rematch versus Missouri.

SMSU defeated Edinboro on Nov. 22, 68-39 and is 0-2 versus Missouri, losing 69-65 in double overtime in Marshall on Oct. 26, before suffering a 72-57 loss on Nov. 22.

Senior Walter Johnson leads the team in scoring averaging 23.4 points per game, while shooting 57 percent (96 of 168) from the field. Senior Jesus Villa is pouring in 17.8 ppg and shooting 43 percent (65 of 151) from the field. Both Johnson and Villa are averaging a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game

SMSU is shooting 49 percent from the field this season and 53 percent from the free throw line. The Mustangs are averaging 62 points per game, while opponents are scoring 59 per game.

The games this weekend are the final four of the calendar year for the Mustangs. SMSU will return to action on Jan. 17-18, 2020.
