SMSU TRACK AND FIELD: SMSU opens indoor season Friday in Brookings
MARSHALL — The Southwest Minnesota State University track & field teams open the 2019-20 indoor season this Friday and Saturday at the South Dakota State University Holiday Open at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings.
The men’s heptathlon will begin at 12 p.m. on Friday, while the women’s pentathlon will begin at 12:30 p.m. Field events will start at 3 p.m. while the running events begin at 4 p.m. The last scheduled event, the 4x400m relays, are set to start at 8:15 p.m. The meet continues on Saturday at 11 a.m.
SMSU first-year head coach Kirk Naumann is expecting to have 20-25 athletes compete at the meet.
SMSU is scheduled to compete in seven meets this season in preparation for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 28-29 in Mankato.
Following this weekend, SMSU will return to action on Jan. 17-18, 2020, at the Minnesota State Invite in Mankato.
SMSU is beginning its seventh season of track & field at the NCAA Division II level.
