PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall girls hockey edges Mankato West in overtime, 2-1

MANKATO — Marshall defeated Mankato West 2-1 in overtime on Thursday.

Just two minutes into the overtime period, Leah Schaefer took a pass from Shelby Ormberg to score the game-winner.

The game was scoreless until the second minute of the third period, when Emelia Barker passed the puck to Logan Sherman for the score.

Marshall goalie Emma Klenken recorded 31 saves in the win, as the Scarlets finished with a 32-24 edge in shots on goal.

Marshall (3-5-1) will travel to Waseca on Saturday.

Girls basketball

MCC 61, WWG 38

WESTBROOK — Murray County Central defeated Westbrook-Walnut Grove 61-38 on Thursday.

Shelby Christensen scored 14 points to lead MCC, while Amber Boock added 13 points in the win.

Bethany Byers led WWG with 16 points and five rebounds.

MCC (0-2) will host Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey on Tuesday while WWG (1-3) will host Red Rock Central on Tuesday.

Sophomore center Tony Nelson led TMB with 30 points and 11 rebounds. Jake Tauer added 25 points and eight assists in the win.

Cody Dahlager scored 25 points to lead YME.

TMB (5-0) will travel to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Tuesday while YME (0-3) will travel to Lakeview on Tuesday.
