PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall blows past Mankato West in home-opener, 71-55

MARSHALL — In its first home game of the season, the Marshall boys basketball team defeated Mankato West 71-55 on Saturday.

Noah Puetz led the way for Marshall with 20 points and eight rebounds.

Bryce Lance added 16 points in the win, while Josh Baker scored 15 points.

Marshall (2-0) will host Willmar on Tuesday.

Logan Sussner led Minneota with 29 points and 16 rebounds.

Nolan Boerboom added 11 points in the loss.

Drew Sagedahl scored 35 points to lead BOLD while Gavin Vosicka added 29 points.

Minneota (1-2) will host Tracy-Milroy-Balaton on Tuesday.

ST. JAMES — A number of Marshall wrestlers competed at the St. James Invitational on Saturday.

Brett Regnier took first place at 106, defeating Redwood Valley’s Carter Brandt by a 3-1 decision in the championship match.

Dylan Louwagie finished in first place at 113, defeating Pine Island’s Luke Williams by a 5-4 decision in the title match.

Hsa Khee Lar placed second at 120, dropping a 9-8 decision in the championship match against Jackson County Central’s Logan Butzon.

Hsa Law Eh took first place at 126, pinning JCC’s Thomas Freking in the title bout.

Tate Condezo placed second at 132, dropping a 7-6 decision against Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Area’s Trayton Hewitt.

Conner Roth placed second at 138, pinned by Mankato West’s Charlie Pickell in the championship.

Noah Jensen placed second at 145, dropping a 14-3 major decision against JCC’s Payton Handevidt.

Tucker Fien placed fifth at 152 after a 14-11 decision win over Seth Rosin of LCWMA.

Cole Felcyn placed second at 195, dropping a 10-3 decision to Mankato West’s Noah Langsjoen in the championship.

Jaiden Bahr finished in first place at 220, thanks to a pin over JCC’s Sam Dunker.

Jackson Vierstraete placed second at 285, pinned by Redwood Valley’s Kaleb Haase in the championship.

Marshall will host a triangular against Adrian Area and Murray County Central/Fulda on Thursday.

Lakeview 66,

Minneota 65

MINNEOTA — A wild finish gave Lakeview a 66-65 win over Minneota on Friday night.

With five seconds left and trailing by two points, Lakeview inbounded the ball to Colby Marczak. His pass to the opposite side of the court was tipped, but a fortuitous bounce allowed Jackson Klocow to recover the loose ball and get off a 3-point shot that bounced off the glass and through the net as time expired for the game-winning points.

The play earned the No. 2 spot on SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays on ESPN Friday night.

Klocow finished the game with six points.

Parker Hoffman led the Lakers with 29 points and six rebounds, while Aaron Loe added 12 points in the win.

Logan Sussner scored 32 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to lead Minneota.

Sam Helmer scored 22 points to lead the Falcons, while Jonah Hansen added 11 points in the win.

Brayden Ahlers led MCC with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

RRC (1-1) will travel to Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Tuesday while MCC (0-3) travels to Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda on Tuesday.

Lakeview 40

MINNEOTA — Minneota defeated Lakeview 59-40 on Friday.

Abby Hennen led Minneota with 19 points, six rebounds and seven steals.

Morgan Hennen and Natalee Rolbiecki added 12 points apiece in the win.

Aubrey Kaczmarek scored eight points to lead Lakeview.

Minneota (4-0) travels to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Tuesday while Lakeview (2-1) will host Canby today.
