SMSU SOCCER: SMSU opens the first round of NSIC tournament facing Augustana today

MARSHALL — The Southwest Minnesota State women’s soccer team (11-6), the seventh seed, will face the second-seeded Augustana (14-3-1) today at 2 p.m., to open the quarterfinals of the NSIC Tournament, at Morstad Field.

•SMSU finished the regular conference season on a five-game winning streak to head into the NSIC tournament, the first appearance since 2015.

•This will be SMSU’s 14th appearance in the tournament, with a 7-18-1 record in tournament play.

•SMSU and Augustana have met once before in the tournament which Augie claimed a 1-0 victory in 2015.

•The winner of Wednesday’s game will play the winner of the sixth-seed, UMary and third-seed, Minnesota State.

•SMSU earned a 2-1 victory over Sioux Falls on Friday, after the game-winning goal was scored with one-tenth of a second left.

•Alli Miskowiec leads the team in scoring with 10 goals, 27 points, 60 shots with 35 of them on goal.

•Abbey Hoisington leads the team in assists with eight.

•SMSU trails the all-time series 17-4-1 after dropping the last six games.

•SMSU faced Augustana in the last appearance in the NSIC tournament on Nov. 4, 2015, with a 1-0 loss.

•SMSU dropped the last meeting on Sept. 20, 2019 in Marshall with a 3-1 loss.

Augustana Notes

•Head coach Brandon Barkus is in his 13th season with a 153-97-28 overall record. Barkus has led the Vikings to five NCAA Tournament appearances and one NSIC tournament championship.

•Grace Behm and Claire Dahm tie for the lead in scoring with seven goals each. Behm has seven goals off 66 shots, with 41 of them on goal, while Dahm has seven goals off 22 shots and 14 of them on goal. Both have one assist both for 15 points.

•The Viking offense is evenly contributed by 11 other Vikings to account for 24 other goals.

•Claudia Pueschner has appeared in all 18 games this season with only 13 goals allowed on the season, two shutouts and 90 saves.

•Erin Fisher has recorded four and Olivia Harriger has three. Harriger’s goals have all been successful PK shots.

•Alli Miskowiec leads the team in goals scored and points with 10 goals and 27 points. Miskowiec also leads in shots (60) and shots on goal (35).
