SMSU SOCCER: Minot State comes back to take down SMSU, 3-2

MINOT, N.D. — Despite opening the second half to take a lead after trailing the whole first, Southwest Minnesota State (6-6, 4-6 NSIC) fell 3-2 as Minot State (3-9, 3-6 NSIC) rallied late in the second half to regain the lead on Sunday afternoon at Herb Parker Stadium.

Minot State went on the board 21 minutes in as MSU’s Sofia Lewis scored, assisted by Melanie Van Malstijn for her second goal of the season.

MISU then led for the remainder of the first half as SMSU was unable to answer in the first 45 minutes.

With the fresh start of the second half, Alli Miskowiec wasted no time connected on her fifth goal of the season, assisted by Abbey Hoisington to lock the game at 1-1.

The Beavers committed a goal in the 49th minute to give Olivia Harriger a penalty kick to score her second goal of the season. Harriger is 2-for-3 in penalty kicks this season.

Down 2-1 with 41 minutes to go in the second half, Minot State tied the game back up as Lewis accounted for her second goal of the game followed by a goal in the 70th minute as MISU’s Anabel Noches scored the game-winning goal, assisted by Lewis.

SMSU’s Amanda Haimes recorded three saves after playing all 90 minutes, as her record drops to 6-6.

Southwest Minnesota State returns home on Friday, Oct. 25, at 6 p.m. versus Minnesota Duluth and Sunday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m. hosting St. Cloud State at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
