PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Tigers roll past Worthington; Bahlmann becomes winningest coach in program history

WORTHINGTON — After finding itself in an early hole, Marshall answered back with 47 unanswered points en route to a 56-12 win over Worthington on Friday.

It was an all-around effort for the Tigers, with multiple key plays by the offense, defense and special teams.

The Tigers forced multiple turnovers on defense, and the special teams chipped in with return touchdowns by Bryce Lance and Brayden Hilgemann.

“Special teams played a big role for us,” Bahlmann said. “It got our momentum going.”

Konnor Aufenthie threw two passing touchdowns and added one on the ground for Marshall, while Gabe Raini totaled three touchdowns in the win.

Marshall (6-0) will host Waseca on Oct. 11.

With the win over Worthington, Bahlmann passed Lloyd Peterson for the most coaching wins in Marshall football history. In 22 seasons from 1972 to 1993, Peterson had a 123-83-1 (.594) record. Bahlmann is 124-33 (.790) and in his 16th season coaching the Tigers.

“It means I’ve gotten the opportunity to coach a lot of great players and I’ve had a lot of great assistants,” Bahlmann said. “It’s been a lot of fun.”
