PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Marshall tennis falls to Jordan in section team tournament

JORDAN — Jordan defeated Marshall 7-0 in the opening round of the Section 2AA Team Tournament on Thursday.

Emily Henderson defeated Gionna Parson 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match. In No. 2 singles, Emily Randolph topped Leah Matzner 6-1, 6-1. Ella Bounds added a 6-1, 6-3 win over Alexis Moat, while Mikayla Hanson beat Mariah Bergjord 6-0, 6-3.

In No. 1 doubles, Maddie Jerabek and Morgan Busse defeated Eden Knudson and Kaia Christensen 6-0, 6-2. Ari Kraus and Kyley Bolster added a 6-3, 6-3 win over Regan Loft and Leah Schaefer, while Lydia Cook and Michelle Pekama topped Danielle Ewing and Maddy Bednarek 6-4, 6-2.

Marshall will compete in the Section 2AA Individual Tournament on Oct. 12.

Boys soccer

Mankato West 2,

Marshall 0

MANKATO — Marshall was looking to end its regular season on a high note with a win against a talented Mankato West squad on Thursday night. But the Scarlets had different ideas, and defeated the Tigers 2-0.

West got on the board in the first half on a goal from Caspar Olseth. The Scarlets added their second goal with 20 minutes left in the second half on a penalty kick by Ethan Ulman.

“We knew it would be tough tonight,” Marshall assistant coach Antonio Correa said. “Defensively we made one mistake all game and they were waiting for that.”

Marshall ends its regular season with a 7-4-4 record, and will now to see where it will be seeded in the section tournament.

Volleyball

Canby 3, RTR 0

CANBY — Canby defeated Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-23) on Thursday.

Brooke Nelson led the way for Canby with eight kills and 15 digs.

Gabby Harding and Maya Wente added eight kills apiece in the win, while Paige Nelson recorded a team-high 20 set assists.

Madison Witte led RTR with seven kills in the loss.

Canby (14-3) will compete in a tournament at Sauk Rapids-Rice on Saturday, while RTR (14-8) will compete at the Jimmy John’s Classic in Marshall this weekend.

Alli Steffen led YME with nine kills and 18 digs. Shelby Mortenson added six kills in the loss.

Lakeview (17-3) will compete at the Jimmy John’s Classic in Marshall this weekend while YME (8-12) will travel to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Tuesday.

DB (6-11) will compete at the Jimmy John’s Classic in Marshall this weekend.

Emma Wahl recorded a team-high 25 digs. Halle Steen set up the offense with 27 assists.

WWG (12-7) will compete at the Jimmy John’s Classic in Marshall this weekend.

Ally Fenger added seven kills in the win, while Avery Carlson finished with 18 set assists and six aces.

Wabasso (7-15) hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Tuesday.
