PREP FOOTBALL: Tigers ready for rematch against Jordan in section opener today

MARSHALL — After falling just short to Jordan in their regular season finale a year ago, the Marshall football team made sure to not have a repeat performance, as the Tigers rolled to a 42-0 victory last Wednesday and wrap up the regular season undefeated.

Marshall coach Terry Bahlmann said they were able to make a lot of big plays on either side of the ball and was pleased with their overall performance.

“It was an excellent last game for us coming off the loss to them the year before,” Bahlmann said. “We wanted to start fast and we did that and made some big plays on both sides of the football; Konnor Aufenthie and Bryce Lance made some huge plays in the passing game and then our defense got five interceptions, so anytime you can do that, good things will happen.”

The Tigers and Hubmen didn’t have to wait long for their next meeting, either, as the two teams will face off today in the Section 2AAAA semifinals, with kickoff being slated for 5:30 p.m.

Bahlmann said offensively, they’re working on just polishing some things and working on Jordan’s scheme.

“We’re just polishing things; there’s always things you can work on, our blocking techniques and our blocking angles and a couple of our schemes and just cleaning some things up,” Bahlmann said. “Now that we know that we play Jordan, we’re working on their plays.”

Defensively, while they don’t know if Jordan starting quarterback Bryce Sievers will be suiting up or if sophomore Noah Milhouse will continue to play under center, they’ll prepare for both and knows they’ll need to slow down the Hubmen’s offense to come away with the win.

“You never know what Sievers’ situation is and if he comes back we need to be ready for him and the sophomore can really throw the football too, so they’re a good passing offense,” Bahlmann said.
