PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Panthers take out RCW in sweep

RENVILLE — Tracy-Milroy-Balaton earned a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-17) sweep over Renville County West on Thursday.

Catherine Wendland led TMB with 12 kills and six digs.

Kylie Hensch added eight kills and two blocks in the win.

TMB will compete at the Southwest Minnesota Challenge this weekend.

DAWSON — The Canby volleyball team earned a 3-1 (25-7, 16-25, 25-17, 25-13) win over Dawson-Boyd on Thursday night.

Karoline Dahl led the Blackjacks with nine kills and nine digs.

Megan Mamer and Kate Dahl added six kills apiece, while Avery Bartunek finished with four kills and 10 digs.

Canby travels to Murray County Central on Monday, while Dawson-Boyd will compete in a tournament a Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Saturday.

Girls tennis

Luverne 6, Marshall 1

LUVERNE — The Luverne Cardinals girls tennis team picked up a 6-1 win over Marshall on Thursday.

The lone win for the Tigers came in No. 4 singles, where Mariah Bergjord defeated Liz Kelm 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

Roz Oye defeated Gionna Parsa 6-3, 6-3. Elise Jarchow added a point for Luverne, defeating Leah Matzner 6-3, 6-1. Ainsle Robinson completed the singles results with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Eden Knudson.

Brynn Thier and Mela Jarchow earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Lexi Moat and Kaia Christensen in No. 1 singles. Lauren VerSteeg and Solveig Toftelaud defeated Regan Loft and Leah Schaefer 7-5, 6-2. Olivia Wieneke and Jacey Smith added a 6-2, 6-1 win over Maddy Bednarek and Danielle Ewing.

Marshall hosts Pipestone Area on Tuesday.

Cross country

Panther Invite

TRACY — Eighteen teams participated at the 22nd annual Panther Invitational cross country meet on Thursday.

Murray County Central/Fulda won the girls meet with a team score of 39, followed by Canby/Minneota (91), Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd (93), Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton (101), Worthington (124), Springfield (136), Pipestone Area (181), BOLD (198), Wabasso (229), Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s (242) and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (263).

MCC/F’s Morgan Gehl won the race with a time of 19:13.50. Ashley Overgaauw (21:57.40) and Amanda Overgaauw (22:05.80) finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Rounding out the team score for the Rebels were Josie Harms (23:00.30) and Ella Stapek (23:02.30) finishing back to back in 19th and 20th.

Grace Drietz placed second overall at 19:47.30 to lead Canby/Minneota. Braelyn Merritt placed 12th at 22:12.40, followed by McKenzie Ruether in 15th (22:34.90), RyAnn Hansen in 4rd (25:07.00) and Aidyn Bruns in 45th (25:22.60).

Anika Fernholz led LQPV/DB with an 11th-place time of 22:10.10, followed by Alex Stitt in 22nd place (23:21.10). Annika Trygestad followed in 24th place (23:47.90) with Taylor Shelstad in 28th (24:18.90) and Josie Shurb in 38th (24:58.70).

Chloe Haven led Wabasso with a 14th place finish at 22:33.60, followed by Madeline Hanna in 53rd (26:06.60), Haley Albu in 67th (28:45.30), Aubrey Mathiowetz in 75th (29:50.50) and Lonnah Maasch in 79th (31:56.40).

Annaka Hook placed 52nd with a time of 26:00.10 to lead TMB, followed by Sarena Schwartz at 28:05.30 (63rd), Makala Lemburg at 28:54.80 (69th), Caitlyn Devereaux at 29:17.30 (72nd) and Hannah Larson at 29:59.90 (77th).

LQPV/DB won the boys race with a team score of 35 points, followed by Worthington (45), Redwood Valley (91), Pipestone Area (134), Canby/Minneota (137), Windom Area (161), Springfield (179), SESM (193) and MCC/Fulda (201).

LQPV/DB’s top five finishers all placed in the top 12. Zeke Sather placed second at 17:00.70, followed by Mike Kvaal in fifth (17:38.10), Griffin Johnson in seventh (17:50.40), Mason Brehmer in ninth (17:56.20) and Payton Sterud in 12th (18:32.70).

Leading the Canby/Minneota boys was Blake Stoks who placed 15th at 18:44.20. He was followed by Alex Full in 24th (19:32.70), Eric Carrasco in 34th (20:06.00), Tristan Biershenk in 36th (20:11.30), and Isaac Bach in 52nd (21:37.60).

Maverick Beckmann finished 26th at 19:37.00 to lead MCC/Fulda, followed by Lukas Stapek in 32nd (19:54.60), Isaiah Kathman in 58th (21:55.40), Dante Damm in 73rd (22:40.30) and Rylan Engelkes (23:53.30).

Bauman-Rovn Invite

MINNETRISTA – The Marshall cross country teams competed at the Bauman-Rovn Invitational held at Gale Woods Farm on Thursday. The Marshall girls placed fourth, while the boys finished in 17th place.

Kate Bucher led Marshall with a fourth place individual time of 19:22.30.

Bellamy Sukalski placed 23rd at 20:15.30, followed by Jersey Leyson in 30th (20:48.20), Cameen McFarquhar in 41st (21:15.70) and Miracle Tucker in 53rd (21:56.30).

Zach Matzner finished just outside the Top 10 to lead the Marshall boys, placing 11th at 16:37.80.

Chiemeka Nwakama placed 103rd (19:11.10), followed by Zach Liebfried in 113th (19:19.70), Tanner Fales in 115th (19:22.40) and Landon Wherry in 128th (19:55.50).

“Looking at our team result, we know we have some more work ahead of us to be ready by the championship races,” Marshall boys cross country coach Brian Liebfried said. “Our biggest takeaway from this meet is finding out that running controlled in the first part of the race can help set up the last part of the race which ultimately leads to better times and places.”

Marshall will hold its home meet on Monday at Independence Park.
