CANBY – With a strong mix of youth and experience, Canby was able to continue its four-year run of winning seasons in 2018 by stringing together 17 victories in another successful run through the regular and post seasons.

Hoping to stick to their proven formula, the Lancers will be guided by a new cast of senior leaders in Charlotte Wright, Cassidy Hunt and Brooke Nelson. A talented group of sophomore returners including Gabby and Rachel Harding, Mackenzie Janiszewski, Kyla Rangaard and Paige Nelson are also expected to make an impact.

Excited for what the group can accomplish but not trying to look too far ahead, second-year head coach Jenai Wright is approaching each and every game as a unique challenge given the strength of the Camden Conference.

“Our team takes (things) one game at a time, and looks forward to great competition in the Camden Conference, which is one of the toughest conferences in the state,” said Wright.

As the season progresses, Wright hopes to see steady improvement in multiple facets of their game.

“We work hard on serving, passing and defense throughout the season,” said Wright.

With the Lancers kicking off their season tonight against Pipestone Area, Wright is focused on seeing gradual progress in each and every contest in order to reach their full potential by season’s end.

“Our goal is to continue to work together and show improvement each time we step foot on the court,” said Wright.

Following their season debut against the Arrows, the Lancers will jump right into their Camden Conference schedule with a matchup against Central Minnesota Christian on Sept. 3. Last season, the Canby defeated the Blue Jays in straight sets and ended the season with a 7-4 record in conference-play.
