LEGION BASEBALL: Mudcats open tournament play with 11-3 win over Spring Lake Park

PRINCETON — The Marshall Mudcats are participating in the 50th annual Princeton American Legion Baseball Tournament this weekend and opened tournament play with an 11-3 win over Spring Lake Park on Friday. The game was called in the sixth inning due to rain.

Isaac Schmitt put together a strong all-around performance to lead Marshall. On the mound, he pitched the complete game and finished with six strikeouts while only allowing three runs on four hits. At the plate, Schmitt went 1 for 4 with a solo home run.

Riley Alcorn, Nick Macchio and Brayden Hilgemann all added two hits apiece in the win. Macchio also recorded two RBI for the Mudcats, while Alcorn scored two runs.

Seven Mudcats recorded a hit in the win, while nine Marshall players scored a run. Nine of the 10 Marshall players with an at-bat reached base.

Marshall will continue play at the 50th annual Princeton American Legion Baseball Tournament today.
