MARSHALL-The Marshall Junior Legion Black baseball team added its ninth-consecutive victory on Wednesday with a 12-5 win over Worthington fueled by a nine-run rally in the bottom of the third inning.

The win moves Marshall Black to a final regular season record of 21-5-1, and all but guarantees them either a number one or number two seed in the upcoming Division 1 Outstate Sub-State Playoffs held here in Marshall.

Much like their previous matchup with Luverne, Marshall Black fell behind early in Wednesday’s contest as Worthington connected on a pair of doubles and a single to take a 2-0 lead through a half inning.

Marshall Black’s response came in the bottom of the second inning when starting pitcher Jack Bly and Braden Meyer each reached base with singles before a double by A.J. Toulouse brought both of them home. Toulouse would later score on a sacrifice fly to left field by Jaden Pearcy to give Marshall a 3-2 lead.

After Worthington’s one-run frame in the top of the third, Marshall went back to work at the plate in the latter half of the inning and blew the game wide open with a nine-run showing. The scoring was generated by three bases-loaded walks and three RBI base hits by Toulouse, Felcyn and Meyer. Chase Douglas also tallied an RBI in with a sacrifice fly.

Worthington went on to add two runs in the top of the sixth inning bringing the game to its final score of 12-5.

Earning the win on the hill for Marshall was Bly (3-1), who lasted three innings, allowing five hits and three runs. Pearcy (3-0) took over for Bly in the fourth inning and remained on the mound until the final out was recorded. Pearcy allowed just five hits and one earned run in the relief appearance.

Marshall Black will be back in action at Legion Field on July 27th at either noon or 2:30 p.m. depending on where they are seeded.
