AMATEUR BASEBALL: Marshall A’s sneak past Minneota in season opener

MARSHALL — The Marshall A’s used a two-run eighth inning to overcome the Minneota Mudhens 3-2 in their season opener on Thursday.

It was the first career win for manager Ryan Schwagel.

Zach Thompson went 2 for 4 with an RBI to lead A’s in the win. Ryan VanMoer also drove in a run in the win.

Jordon Kontz, Barry Meyer and Ryan Schwagel all scored runs in the Marshall win.

Rusty Swanson struck out four batters over six innings in the start. Logan Tomasek threw the final three innings and earned the win on the mound.

Tyson Sonnenburg went 2 for 4 with a run scored to lead the Mudhens offense.

Marshall will look to stay undefeated as it hosts Luverne tonight.
